If your essay deals with a contemporary problem, warn readers of the possible consequences of not attending to the problem. For most essays, one well-developed paragraph is sufficient for a conclusion. In some cases, a two-or-three paragraph conclusion may be appropriate. You should strive to portray yourself in the best possible light and keep your essay focused on answering the prompt. It is also important to be aware of the complexity of your topic. Pick topics for which you have enough room to elaborate. Do not cite three or four pieces of supporting evidence in an elaborate thesis if you are only allowed 500 words. If you only have a few paragraphs to write your essay, you will likely only have room for one main point of supporting evidence. If two sentences convey two only slightly differing ideas, try to find a way to combine them. Use semi-colons, em dashes, or compound sentences if necessary. For example, do you have any sentences that start with, “It is” or “It seems that”? These are extraneous words that can be taken out without altering the sentence’s meaning. I am currently studying Finance and Economics at Hong Kong University. I was raised in Bengalu and when I was 18 I moved to Hong Kong to take my university study. If your essay is significantly longer than the suggested word count, read through it and highlight everything that is most importantâ€"this includes important points of introspection and supporting evidence. If you choose to use this approach, remember that it might become necessary to remove information that you had initially deemed important. Here are some tips on how you might cut down your essay. Crafting An Unforgettable College Essay

Crafting An Unforgettable College Essay For as long as I can remember, I have dreamed of science. Where others see the engineering, experimentation, and presentation of science as a chore, I only see excitement. Even as a child I constantly sought it out, first on television with Bill Nye and The Mythbusters, then later in person in every museum exhibit I could find. I agree to the Terms of Use and Privacy Statement, which detail my rights to control my personal data under US law, as this is a US-based website, but also consistent with the principles of the EU’s GDPR. My statistical training in psychology orientates me toward a more quantitative graduate experience. Due to the University of Rochester’s reputation for an extensive use of statistics in political science research, I would make a good addition to your fall class. While attending the University of Rochester, I would like to study international relations or comparative politics while in graduate school. Thus vindicated, my desire to further formalize my love of science brings me to State University. Thanks to this experience, I know now better than ever that State University is my future, because through it I seek another, permanent, opportunity to follow my passion for science and engineering. Please submit a one-page, single-spaced essay that explains why you have chosen State University and your particular major, department or program. I find the research of Dr.’s Hein Goemans and Gretchen Helmke intriguing and would like the opportunity to learn more about it through the Graduate Visitation program. In college, as I became more politically engaged, my interest began to gravitate more towards political science. The interest in serving and understanding people has never changed, yet I realized I could make a greater difference doing something for which I have a deeper passion, political science. The 4 years I spent in the Army cultivated a deep-seated passion for serving society. While in the Army, I had the great honor to serve with several men and women who, like me, fought to make a difference in the world. During my tour of duty, I witnessed several shipmates suffer from various mental aliments. Driven by a commitment to serve and a desire to understand the foundations of psychological illness, I decided to return to school to study psychology. Participating in the Student Science Training Program and working in their lab made me feel like a kid in a candy store. Just the thought of participating in a project at this level of scientific rigor made me forget that this was supposed to be my summer break and I spent the first day eagerly examining every piece of equipment. At the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at State University, I will be able to do just that. Allow her essay help with a few other hundreds of words are increase the. Science in all its forms fascinated me, but science projects in particular were a category all to themselves. To me, science projects were a special joy that only grew with time. In fact, it was this continued fascination for hands-on science that brought me years later to the sauna that is the University of Alabama in mid-June. In a department where education and research are intermixed, I can continue to follow the path that towards scientific excellence. Long-mesmerized by hobbies like my work with the FIRST Robotics team, I believe State University would be the best choice to continue to nurture my love for electrical and computer engineering. I have only scratched the surface in this ever evolving field but know that the technological potential is limitless. Likewise, I feel that my time at State University would make my potential similarly limitless. I, like State University, constantly work to explore the limits of nature by exceeding expectations. Long an amateur scientist, it was this drive that brought me to the University of Texas for its Student Science Training Program in 2013. Up to that point science had been my private past time, one I had yet to explore on anyone else’s terms. Participating for the first time in a full-length research experiment at that level, I felt more alive, more engaged, than I ever had before. Learning the complex dynamics between electromagnetic induction and optics in an attempt to solve one of the holy grails of physics, gravitational-waves, I could not have been more pleased.

Important Things To Learn About College Admission Essay Examples

Important Things To Learn About College Admission Essay Examples Instead, the characters within its pages are mixtures of everything and its opposite. The story’s protagonist, Liesel Meminger, learns this lesson through her experiences in Nazi Germany, a place and time in which we are often inclined to believe that good and evil existed as separate entities. The Book Thief introduces a myriad cast of characters and thrusts them into the polarizing world of Nazi Germany. The novel helped me understand that the harder an ideology is pushed on people, the harder they will rebel in indirect ways. The constant fear turned people into animals willing to do anything to survive. For fear of being next to disappear or jealousy because someone lives a tiny bit better than you, espionage and treason become a normal part of life. This sense of clarity I received, was due in part to Pride and Prejudice because even though it did not provide me with the answers to my questions, it had given me a sense of self awareness. Make sure that your essay does not exceed the maximum word and page length. This might mean cutting out whole sentences or it might mean using fewer words to say the same thing. Check out successful essays from current Johnnies. There’s no one right thing to say in an essay, but these Johnnies may be a source of inspiration. The introduction is the “cover of a book” â€" the most noticeable element of an essay. Its key role is to catch readers’ attention and involve them in the story. Successful personal essay examples show that the introduction should contain exciting facts, questions or anecdotes that’ll spark that engagement. In bursts of inspiration I would “homeschool” myself, withdrawing into seclusion. I liked to learn by tinkering and building things. I read books about agriculture, built a chicken coop and a garden, and even slept outside in my family’s field. I found these methods of occupying my time to be more fulfilling than the types of entertainment, namely social media, being employed by those around me. On several occasions throughout my childhood, I decided to become a “scholar;” I would hole myself up with books that I couldn’t quite understand and pore over the pages until my eyes ached. Not one of the book’s characters can be defined in terms of “good” and “evil,” or “right” and “wrong.” Rather, they are all unequivocally human, for better or for worse. The one absolute truth to our existence is the divide between life and deathâ€"and, some may argue that death is the only cessation of our humanity. Until recently, I felt little obligation to involve myself in any substantive way with humanity as a whole. Before I had defined this connection as one of my most important values, I experimented with various methods of separation. The notion that prejudice clouds perception was a truth that I don’t imagine I’d have come to as early without the help of Austen and it made me wonder how much more I could learn from reading. After that I became obsessed with reading, falling into my old habits of staying up late to read the last chapter, staying in to read at lunch, and going to the library every weekend. I am forever grateful to Pride and Prejudice for reigniting the passion for reading I had lost in middle school. The move to Texas was one of the hardest transitions in my life as I was greeted with a culture shock and had to reinvent myself. Its author, Adam Mickiewicz, is considered something of a literary god, somewhere between Dante and Shakespeare. The novel focuses on ways the Soviet regime exerted its power on its people. Coming from a post-Soviet country still struggling with its past, where some adore past times while others despise them, I am interested in how the regime worked to indoctrinate people. Although the novel is not a history book, its presentation of characters helps to crystallize the essence of what the Soviet Union looked like. The fact of it being a literary work has made it easier for me to comprehend and visualize the historical period which was so devastating to my country. In California my peers and I had shared the same views. We were all so liberal which at the time felt like a blessing, but when I got to Texas it seemed as though everywhere I went my ideas were challenged. On an almost daily basis I was asked to defend my views on a subject, but my debating skills were limited to logical fallacies and ad hominem attacks so I wasn’t too successful. In my eyes it didn’t matter what I said because I was right and they were wrong. The Book Thief refuses to flee from this ambiguity. Reading allowed me to feel connected with important ideas and values that were scarce in my surroundings. These endeavors were formative, and I do not regret them. However, in their extremity, they were defense mechanisms against the demands of the world, and they were not sustainable. In trying to cultivate my own separate reality, concerned predominantly with my own experience, I became drained and depressed. Thanks to all authors for creating a page that has been read 91,972 times. Word counts depend on the college or university in question. Start your essay with a good quote or a statement that reflects your whole theme perfectly. Make sure you write real experiences and do not make up stories.

Undergraduate Admission Essay

Undergraduate Admission Essay Don’t let the prompts constrict your thinking on what is appropriate for a college essay, however. One brainstorming technique is to identify several tangible objects that have special significance for you. If you dig deep enough there is almost always a great and revealing story in one of them. Considering which prompt aligns best with your overall story, brainstorm by asking yourself what are the strengths, personal qualities or values you want to highlight in the essay. For the final review, focus on formatting, spelling and grammar, and punctuation. A mixed metaphor, the use of multiples metaphors at a single time, detracts from the narrative. Likewise, dissimilar metaphors used in rapid succession confuse the reader. One of the most important qualities/values selective colleges look for in an applicant is curiosity. Read through your essay and look for opportunities to explore how your experience may be connected to historical, literary or philosophical ideas you care about. You have gone through theâ€"often gruelingâ€"process of crafting a competitive admission essay. Now that you have completed your edits, revisions, and rewrites, conduct your final review. We do not recommend that customers cite or otherwise use them for academic credit. The deeper you go, the better. For your anecdotes, focus on specific details. Breaks keep the mind fresh and allow us to be more productive over a longer duration of time. Structure your breaks into your work schedule and be deliberate about how you spend them. Move around, stretch, go for a walk, or anything else that gets your mind off your writing. Your personal statement should be well written, but less formal than an analytical essay for English class. Use language and a tone that your family and friends would recognize as you. Immerse yourself in a comfortable workspace, free from distraction. Some students work well at home or in a library, others love to work in cafes. Be honest with yourself and where you will work best. Set a writing schedule.Allocate a specific and significant amount of time each week for writing. The goal is for your essay to illustrate the development of them by showing you both in action and in reflection. Stay tuned, receive discounts and valuable admissions-related information. All application essay samples (personal statement sample / statement of purpose sample) are for review only. Drive your essay’s success by drawing the reader into your story with a great first line.If not immediately a scene, consider using a jarring fact or statement that requires explanation. Consider this your hook to grab the admission officer's attention. Starting with an anecdote that puts the reader in to the action right away often works best. This can be a scene at the beginning of your story or you can jump right to a crucial point in the middle. Once you lay out the challenge you faced and built suspense, you can flashback to provide the necessary background and context. After you have narrowed down your topics, decide which is best for you. This just means the one you are going to explore first. Remember, while you want your essay to make an impact, your topic does not need to be earth shattering or include the biggest hardship. The best essays are often built on seemingly ordinary experiences like shopping at Costco or baking a cheesecake. Hearing your essay emphasizes any mistakes that may have crept through. There is a strange distinction between reading on your computer and reading on paper.

This master template can be used for short argumentative essays, long argumentative essays, complicated argumentative essays, and straightforward ones. When I was in school when I was younger, all assignments were page count. Can someone explain to me why so many people are obsessed with word count and page count? If you’re a writer, shouldn’t writing well be the most important thing? Rachel, a student at James Madison University, recalls her Common Application essay with pride, because she was true to herself in everything she wrote. Make sure that your essay is more than a recitation of the accomplishments, activities, and experiences already hashed out in the application. If your essay doesn’t present any new information, it will be dull and forgettable. If you really want to make an impression, let your personality shine through. The essay is supposed to reveal information that you haven’t had a chance to discuss elsewhere in the application. It’s meant to be a deeper dive into who you are beyond the numbers and accolades. As we mentioned earlier, you don’t know who is reading your essay or how they feel about these subjects. It’s best not to offend them or make them feel uncomfortable. Sometimes, applicants write about obstacles they’ve overcome or illicit/illegal topics including arrest, sexual experiences, drugs, and alcohol. In a few cases, these topics have been addressed effectively. It has additional sections to add more information, such as an extended background or an approach/methods section. Narrative essays are often the closest thing to pieces of journalism. If you master the narrative essay, then you are likely well on your way to being a successful journalist. Editing is vastly different from original writing so this needs to be clarified first, as it has to be the voice and personal memories of the applicant not the parent. The sooner the family treats this as a team effort it will be much easier for the 12th grader to feel as though they are not alone in this process. CollegeXpress has everything you need to simplify your college search, get connected to schools, and find your perfect fit. “Swings are everywhere,” she says, so it was a relatable topic while still being unique to her own personality. Additionally, using swings as her favorite place gave her a lot of imagery to work with in her essay, because she could describe what being on the swings felt like. The important lesson to take away here is that if you are truthful and genuine in your essay, it will be easy to write about. If an essay is too “polished” it may seem inauthentic, creating confusion in the reader. Make sure that you are confident in your essay and accept feedback, but don’t allow others to change your essay in any way that will cause it to lose its original message. Parents should always help their child in a positive way as long as they are not writing the ideas for the student. Why do writers seem to obsess over word count and page count? There are instances when you’re given an assignment, not by word count, but assigned by the number of pages. For example, “Write a paper four pages long.” If you get an assignment to write four pages, one of the first questions that will likely come to mind is, “How many words are in four pages? ” If you need to figure out words per page, you can use a words per page calculator. Editing for grammatical errors and spelling mistakes is fine, but don’t change the voice of the essay. But for the most part, it’s better to avoid subjects that could reflect poorly on your judgment and morals. After all, you don’t want colleges to think you’re someone they’d rather not have on campus. Meet all your essay deadlines with the help of our expert writers. As we said, writing is hard, and even professional writers like myself have trouble doing it. Here are a few useful tips that I follow in order to get the most of myself. Some key requirements for writing a good essay are ensuring a logical flow of content and smooth transitions but also using compelling evidence taken from trustworthy sources. A lot depends on how captivating/ original your information is, so focusing on content quality is crucial.

College Admission Essays

College Admission Essays Throughout those days, I created a new-found sense of home in my head. He doesn’t tell us what they mean until the end of the essay, when he writes “I learned and was shaped by each of them.” Note that each essence image is actually a lesson--something he learned from each family. After I finished the exchange student program, I had the option of returning to Korea but I decided to stay in America. For the past three years, I have been starting everyone’s morning with a bubbly, “Good morning, foxes! ” and ending with “Have a marvelous Monday,” “Terrific Tuesday” or “Phenomenal Friday! ” My adjective-a-day keeps people listening, gives me conversation starters with faculty, and solicits fun suggestions from my friends. 25 therapy sessions, over 40 poems, not a single one didn’t mention my mom. I shared my writing at open mics, with friends, and I cried every time. Even though I was probably only ten at the time, I wanted to find a way to help kids like me. I wanted to find a solution so that nobody would have to feel the way I did; nobody deserved to feel that pain, fear, and resentment. As I learned more about the medical world, I became more fascinated with the body’s immune responses, specifically, how a body reacts to allergens. Thanks to my positivity, I was chosen to give the morning announcements freshman year. Now, I am the alarm clock for the 1,428 students of Fox Lane High School. I loved how long words were formed by combining simpler characters, so HuÇ' (火) meaning fire and Shān (å±±) meaning mountain can be joined to create HuÇ'shān (火山), which means volcano. I love spending hours at a time practicing the characters and I can feel the beauty and rhythm as I form them. I am on Oxford Academy’s Speech and Debate Team, in both the Parliamentary Debate division and the Lincoln-Douglass debate division. I embraced the pain, the hurt, and eventually, it became the norm. That night, the glow-in-the-dark ball skittered across the ice. My opponent and I, brooms in hand, charged forward. We collided and I banana-peeled, my head taking the brunt of the impact. Stubborn as I was, even with a concussion, I wanted to remain in class and do everything my peers did, but my healing brain protested. My teachers didn’t quite know what to do with me, so, no longer confined to a classroom if I didn’t want to be, I was in limbo. I began wandering around campus with no company except my thoughts. Occasionally, Zora, my English teacher’s dog, would tag along and we’d walk for miles in each other's silent company. Other times, I found myself pruning the orchard, feeding the school’s wood furnaces, or my new favorite activity, splitting wood. This past summer, I took a month-long course on human immunology at Stanford University. I learned about the different mechanisms and cells that our bodies use in order to fight off pathogens. My desire to major in biology in college has been stimulated by my fascination with the human body, its processes, and the desire to find a way to help people with allergies. I hope that one day I can find a way to stop allergic reactions or at least lessen the symptoms, so that children and adults don’t have to feel the same fear and bitterness that I felt. I want to study foreign language and linguistics in college because, in short, it is something that I know I will use and develop for the rest of my life. I wanted to see new places and meet different people. Since I wasn’t an exchange student anymore, I had the freedom--and burden--of finding a new school and host family on my own. After a few days of thorough investigation, I found the Struiksma family in California. In the years that followed, this experience and my regular visits to my allergy specialist inspired me to become an allergy specialist. I will never stop traveling, so attaining fluency in foreign languages will only benefit me. In the future, I hope to use these skills as the foundation of my work, whether it is in international business, foreign diplomacy, or translation. Then, in high school, I developed an enthusiasm for Chinese. As I studied Chinese at my school, I marveled how if just one stroke was missing from a character, the meaning is lost. However, there are moments where the seconds stand still. The iTaylor’s best feature is its built-in optimism.

Admission Essay Writing Service Increase Your Chance Of Admission

Admission Essay Writing Service Increase Your Chance Of Admission The most important aspect about the Summer Academy was finding my people, the ones who talked about Nietzsche and Plato at lunch and had long debates and poetry slams after Seminar. Making friends was never an easy feat for me, but at the Summer Academy, I found everyone I talked to felt like we had been friends for years. I made an even more intimate group of friends who I still keep in touch with because they are more than friends to me, they are family. I think that my sophomore to senior years of high school have been a great preparation for a school like St. John’s. It certainly wasn’t enough to convince them to abandon their political identities, but it did have them absorbing ideas that they wouldn’t have entertained for a second if those ideas hadn’t been couched in wit. With the increasing division caused by social media’s ideological bubbles, satire has become a necessary means to provoke thought and conversation outside of one’s normal exposure. We have put up walls around ourselves and entrenched our ideas, ready for war. Satire is an ideological Trojan Horse, and, when used well, a powerful sneak attack on ignorance. This experience will not only be beneficial to me in discussion, but will hopefully raise the quality of a seminar for the class as a whole. The small enrollment size of as well as the overall approach to education makes St. John’s the ideal place for me to extend my positive experience of high school into the college setting. Maybe not, but I loved the rules, the structure, and the big questions that surrounded organizing a government. I thought about these things constantlyâ€"while brushing my teeth, doing chores, and driving to school. Unable to take this beloved course a second time, I chose my senior classes with more than a touch of melancholy. Merriam-Webster defines satire as “trenchant wit, irony, or sarcasm used to expose and discredit vice or folly.” Catch-22 clearly fits within this definition. However, I find this definition lacking, good satire should hold up a fun-house mirror to society to accentuate its problems and perhaps offer hope for the future. Any pessimist can simply expose and discredit vice and folly. Even calling something “vice or “folly” discredits it. To make a reader care, an author must place an earnest heart within their satire and at least hint that we can do better. This would place satire in the realm of speculative fiction, the genre that includes science fiction and fantasy. When I was a freshman in high school, The Colbert Report debuted. Attending a religious school in rural Missouri, most of the faculty and students were rather conservative. They weren’t stupid; they knew the joke was on them, but it was funny enough that they watched the show and read the books. Each year I had a two hour seminar course every day, in which half of the grade is based on discussion, and the other half is on papers. This has given me unique experience both in practice with writing analytical papers on a text, as well as practice with reading and discussing a text in a deeper way. Although I don’t love having a constant existential crisis, I do love reading things that push me to consider new ways of thinking. That’s why I consider this a great book, because it takes creativity and self- reflection and ideas about love and brings them together in new and powerful ways that make me feel more attuned to my surroundings. Although his writing is not easy to understand at first, I find that it’s worth the struggle. I was skeptical that even the most appealing humanities class, AP Literature, would be anything but anticlimactic by comparison. I’d become so accustomed to reading the function-focused writings of Locke, Rousseau, Madison, Thoreau, that I found it difficult to see “literature” as anything more than mere stories. I wanted substance that I could actually do something with, and I didn’t expect to find it in AP Lit. I visited the Santa Fe campus and experienced classes, the campus, and the people. Surprisingly enough I made friends within 20 minutes of being on campus. I was able to share my obsession with reading and the knowledge I gathered on any subject I put my mind to. After I came home, I knew I needed more information. I wanted to know more, I wanted to experience it myself. The summer after my Junior year I signed up for a Summer Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. I immediately found my people and a continual comfort of my environment which automatically equated to the feeling of being home. Home is the feeling of being comfortable with the uncertainty and uncomfortable situations. The feeling of being involved, nervous and excited all at the same time. Everything Calvino writes is the perfect mixture of scientific fact and fable-like fantasy, and I’m so glad that I took my mom’s advice in that bookstore in New York. In my pursuit to find a catch, I could only find nothing. Unlike other colleges with special course requirements, unstable administration, and strange traditional customs such as Freshman not being able to say the word ‘duck’, I found complete and absolute nothing. I signed up for more information; they stayed true to the image and personality of the college.

4 Ways To Know If Youve Written A Good College Essay

4 Ways To Know If You’ve Written A Good College Essay After your initial draft is complete, let it sit for at least a day. With some space between yourself and your initial writing, you'll be able to view your essay objectively and have better luck finding the flaws. Writing the college essay takes time and effort, and you should feel accomplished. When you submit your essay, remember to include your name, contact information, and ID number if your college provided one, especially if you send it to a general admission email account. Think about parts of your background that have shaped your life. Ultimately, every application essay you write is going to be about you, as it should be the easiest thing to write about and it will give admission officers an idea of who you are. Increasing applications from the U.S. and abroad mean that universities across the country are rewarded with an even more elite pool of candidates. Impeccable grades and test scores alone are no longer enough to set students apart from the crowd. As social media and technology begin to change the landscape of higher education, admissions officers are looking for new ways to get to know potential students. Use your own voice and your own stories to illustrate why you would be an asset to the school. Don't fall into the trap of sanitizing your speech and your opinions for risk of offending an admissions officer. Although you do need to use proper spelling and grammar, your college essay is a perfect place for creative metaphors, witty turns of phrase and humor. Your college counselors are there to help, but they can’t if you don’t ask or wait until the last minute to seek guidance and feedback. Make a plan to meet with your college counselor and go over your college list and essays, and ask for feedback on your writing. After polishing it up, let it sit again and give it another coat of polish before showing it to your proofreaders. The best college admission essays go through several drafts before they're finished, so don't be afraid to rewrite your essay as many times as needed. Unlike the rest of your application, which consists largely of objective facts like grades and test scores, your application essay allows you to truly showcase what makes you unique as a student and a person. So always represent yourself in the best way possible, but make sure you keep that depiction truthful. Every year, the path to college is paved with more roadblocks. There is still no better way to introduce yourself than through an admission essay. No matter how well you write your first draft, there's probably room for improvement. The application essay is not a résumé, nor is it an epic. They also don’t expect you to have survived trauma or carried out heroic feats by your senior year in high school. Your college counselor can provide valuable insight into how to improve your college application essays, so seek feedback on your drafts as soon as possible. School-based counselors have a lot of students to advise and are very busy, so seek guidance early and often. The personal statement is your opportunity to reveal something about yourself that can’t be found anywhere else in your application â€" use it! Many students use this essay to expound upon activities or interests that are already heavily demonstrated in their application through courses, the activity list, and more. Instead of reinforcing a top activity or interest, instead, write about something that reveals another dimension of your life or personality. If your top activity is swimming, don’t write about the big championship meet. Find something else that reveals something new and that shows you put a lot of thought into your essay. If your study of AP biology conflicts with your religious views, write about that and how you reconciled the two.

4 Common Types Of Essays You

4 Common Types Of Essays You The kids always had something warm to eat, and were always on their best behavior at home and in school. My room was on the first floor, right in front of Shellie’s hair salon, a small business that she ran out of her home. We made pizza together, watched Shrek on their cozy couch together, and went fishing on Sunday together. On rainy days, Michael, Jen and I would sit on the porch and listen to the rain, talking about our dreams and thoughts. But I retreated to my desk where a pile of “Please draw this again and bring it to me tomorrow” papers lay, desperate for immediate treatment. Later, I even refused to attend the same elementary school and wouldn’t even eat meals with him. This essay could work for prompt’s 1, 2 and 7 for the Common App. I had been typing an English essay when I heard my cat's loud meows and the flutter of wings. I had turned slightly at the noise and had found the barely breathing bird in front of me. In the living room were six or seven huge amplifiers and a gigantic chandelier hung from the high ceiling. At first, the non-stop visits from strangers made me nervous, but soon I got used to them. I remember one night, a couple barged into my room while I was sleeping. My second family was the Martinez family, who were friends of the Watkins’s. Afterward, we would gather in the living room and Danielle would play the piano while the rest of us sang hymns. I now understand surgeons to be much more complex practitioners of medicine, and I am certain that this is the field for me. Never before had I seen anything this gruesomeâ€"as even open surgery paled in comparison. As I sip a mug of hot chocolate on a dreary winter’s day, I am already planning in my mind what I will do the next summer. I briefly ponder the traditional routes, such as taking a job or spending most of the summer at the beach. However, I know that I want to do something unique. After sticking up my magnets on the locker door, I ran my fingers across the bottom of the bag, and I realized that one remained. The theme for relay for life is a hope for a cure. Doctors in the operating room are calm, cool, and collected, making textbook incisions with machine-like, detached precision. It is a profession founded solely on skill and techniqueâ€"or so I thought. The Hotchkiss volunteers had already left, off to enjoy some Texas BBQ, leaving me behind with the college kids to clean up. Not until we were stranded did we realize we were locked out of the van. While pursuing research in California, I was also able to meet many similarly motivated, interesting people from across the United States and abroad. As I learned about their unique lifestyles, I also shared with them the diverse perspectives I have gained from my travel abroad and my Chinese cultural heritage. I will never forget the invaluable opportunity I had to explore California along with these bright people. Through this experience as a leader, I have come to realize, as a community, we hope together, we dream together, we work together, and we succeed together. This is the phenomenon of interdependency, the interconnectedness of life, the pivotal reason for human existence.

Admissions Requirements To Attend Kennesaw State University

Admissions Requirements To Attend Kennesaw State University And don’t let them get away with saying your essay is just “good,” either. Don’t leave them alone until they’ve told you at least one thing you can improve, or at least specific aspects they liked. Try very hard not to dump your entire life story or all your finer points into the essay. Focus on singular moments or activitiesâ€"pick the ones that stand out. You can also have another person read through the essay and give you an opinion on whether there are any mistakes that you have missed. The final grammar and tense check for your college admission essay is done by you reading it out loud. Also, while reading it out loud, check if the paragraphs have a consistency and flow. Since your college admission essay determines whether you get accepted or not, it should be written masterfully and carefully. This article is a guide on how to write a good admission essay, with a number of tips on how to make it even better. Connecticut College admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to all students at the college. Seek professional helpâ€"the problem with spending so much time on what can be a relatively short essay is that you look at it so much it starts to lose its meaning for you. So for the same reason you should read your work out loud or backwards, you have to get another pair of eyes and ears working on it, as well. It’s no jokeâ€"you’d be right to think that after working their way through a big pile of essays, the people reading yours could use a good laugh. You know next to nothing about who will read it, let alone their senses of humor. You don’t want a college to think you are too focused on education and that you can’t have fun. But they also need to know you will be taking your education seriously. One simple joke at the start or end of your essay is more than enough. Choose the prompt that comes closest to something you’d like to write about. The purpose of the prompt is to help you reflect on something that matters to you. Your application will be full of information that illuminates dimensions of you and your abilities, but only the essay gives you a vehicle to speak, in your own voice, about something personally significant. A good friend, parent, or better yet, a teacher can read what you’ve written and give you a reality check. Encourage them to be constructiveâ€"it’s okay if they tell you what you’ve come up with is no good, as long as they can offer some feedback to help make it better. Ask them to judge whether the writing really sounds like you are talking. Once you've brainstormed a list of ideas, choose one as the theme of your essay. Focusing on one theme helps keep your essay organized and to the point. Like any essay, the college admissions essay should have a clear thesis that summarizes your main ideas and presents your theme in an engaging way. Your essay also shouldn't just repeat things that you've already listed elsewhere on your application. Tell the admissions officer something they can't learn about you from the other paperwork you've filled out.

Help@MIT

Help@MIT Its August.   Campus is already buzzing to life.   Those friends who went off to distant lands for the summer are finally coming home, and freshmen are just starting to filter in due to FPOPs or international orientation (safe travels for the rest of you arriving over the weekend!).   Itll be a time for some new adventure before classes start.   Boston is to be explored, roller coasters to be built, and all the rush food ever shall be eaten.   Easy, fun, interesting.   Life will be pretty good ^_^ But this MIT, where the education is likened to drinking from a firehose.   As one might suspect, things wont always be easy.   Often enough, youll find yourself leaning on your friends.   Maybe youll miss home, and give your parents a call.   But sometimes, youll need more resources than those.   You might need more than the incredibly awesome How to Get Around MIT guide (free for freshmen!), or the growing Admissions wiki, or a map, or the blogs [insert You Are Here sticker].   Maybe its not just a problem with your computer or your resume you want to tweak or you dont understand what in the world were saying.   No, maybe youre sick!   Or down!   Or frustrated with classes!   So where do you go? This entry is meant to enlighten you about just a few of the abundant resources around campus and is by no means complete.   (Current students and cruft, youre more than welcome to comment on more.) Student Support Services (S^3) S^3, in my mind, is the mega-resource.   You can go to them for just about any significant issue and if they cant help you, theyll know who can.   Are you struggling in classes?   Did you catch the flu and miss an exam?   Did something major happen in your family that makes life hard?   Are you stressed out of your mind?   The deans in this office are good to touch base with, making sure youre doing the right thing. Medical MIT Medical is our medical facility on campus.   Maybe you need a checkup, or to get a prescription filled.   Maybe you have the sniffles, or are dealing with the aforementioned flu.   Maybe you need help dealing with stress.   MIT Medical is a good starting spot for your medical needs while on campus. Calling 100 Two different links double rainbow!   Calling 100 from a campus phone, or (617) 253-1212 from a normal phone, gets you our equivalent of 911.   Your call gets answered by the MIT police, who have the advantage of being more familiar with campus and less busy than whatever police force you get if you call 911.   In certain medical emergencies (I hear sports injuries are the most common of these calls), youll also be connected to MITs student-run EMS (theyre fully certified EMTs and you can become one, too!). MedLinks I am one of these!   Basically, a MedLink is a student-trained over-the-counter medical dispensary, a listening ear/shoulder to lean on, and an in-dorm resource-for-even-more-resources.   All dorms (across most floors) and many FSILGs have a MedLink.   You can find what medications we carry on our website, as well as many other resources if the ones listed here arent enough for you :) So. Many. People. There are a lot of people at MIT who want to help you, who are willing to help you though usually, its your job to seek them out and let them know whats up.   You have professors and TAs (teaching assistants) who can spend extra time with you on your classes, you have your department and adviser (maybe your UROP adviser, too) to go to for planning needs and career questions, you have various tutoring services all over the place (ask the department the class is in). Moral of the story: there are so many resources around here, youd be quite silly not to go get whatever help you need, when you need it.   Even if youre not sure its the right person to ask, theyll at least help you figure out where you should actually be going.   (A careful reader mightve noticed that the above resources have a lot of overlap in purpose find the one that works for you.) MIT is a wonderful, exciting place but it can get overwhelming, too.   The good news is, there are plenty of people here to help ^_^

Uses Of Scripture Within Islam Essay - 1243 Words

Sarah LaBanc REL C 351 2 November 2016 One Does Not Simply Read The Qu’ran Use of Scripture Within Islam The center stage text for the Muslim community is the Qu’ran, which is a direct record of the revelations given to Muhammad in 610 C.E., by the angel Gabriel (Palmer, 1990). This text stands as the word of God and the proof of Muhammad’s prophethood. Originally, the words that were given to Muhammad were memorized and repeated word for word, then preached to others. Eventually, they were collected and record; therefore, the Qu’ran is the exact verbiage of God. Moreover, the Qu’ran has no reflection of the prophet Muhammad or his own personal thoughts, rather the text is considered â€Å"other than† (Palmer, 1990) Muhammad and represent the mind and will of Allah. As a result, muslims place divine authority and power in the words of the Qu’ran. First and foremost, the Qu’ran is used as an oral tradition, meaning the words are memorized and recited, which has led to a high prevalence of these words in almost all aspects of life in Islamic societies. In many cases, â€Å"one hears the sounds of recitation constantly at the market, in taxis, in government offices, in public schools, before and after television broadcasts, and in private homes† (Barker, 2011). Unlike the Bible, which covers a historical narrative with intermittent sermons which frame the coming of a Messiah, the Qu’ran has no narrative, however, it teaches practical principles for daily life.
